The People of Tokelau

Can you imagine never leaving your homeland like Puka and living off the land?  What would your life be like?

If you were sent to go to school in another country like New Zealand, would you return home with your family to look after your parents like Hegalo has?



These are the some of the big questions that the people of Tokelau have to face all the time.  

Why do you think they have to make these decisions and how does it affect their lives??

    Puka's Question - I think My life will be a struggle and complicated but I'll be experiencing how my people live and eat and also be living life,the traditional way.

    I think that it would've been hard for them to live this way but again its up to them what they wanna do when they finish school.

    If I got sent away to another school I would stay away because I can have the best future for me but also I might Return home so I can be with my parents in case anything happens to them.

    I think being in Puka's perspective. It will be hard to connect with your brother and sister who have gone to get a better education because they learned different stuff. Also, its a blessing because they have to rely on Puka to be person who can create traditional methods.

    I think my life in the outer world will be a struggle but if I went over to my culture and experience my people live but they still living life

    For Puka's one is and think that it was good for him to stay in tokalau because he can keep the tokalau way in the island.

    and for Hegalo's one I will come back home to saty with my family when I am done with school in NZ

    I think if I got sent away it would be the good for me so I can have a good career. I think my life will be a struggle because I will be experiencing how people live sometimes without food and water.

    If I got sent away to another school in New Zealand I would make sure to do well and that if I had kids i would make sure to give the best for them but going back to my family in the islands would probably be a yes to look after my parents.

    If i got sent away it would be good for my future but then at the same time i would've missed my family and friends and teachers.But if i got sent it would be good for my learning.

    I think if i got sent away in the outer world, it would be a massive struggle for me because i'll be experiencing how other people live without, not enough food and water.
